Convert FIT to CSV every point of a Garmin activity in a spreadsheet
Drop a .fit file and download a CSV file with one row per recorded point: time, latitude, longitude, elevation, distance, speed, heart rate, cadence, power and temperature. It opens in any spreadsheet and reads easily from a script.

The columns
time_utc
Time of the point, ISO 8601, in UTC.
latitude, longitude
In decimal degrees; empty when the point has no valid position.
altitude_m, distance_m
Elevation and cumulative distance, in metres.
speed_m_s
Speed in metres per second (multiply by 3.6 for km/h).
heart_rate_bpm, cadence_rpm
Heart rate in beats per minute, cadence as recorded by the device.
power_w, temperature_c
Power in watts, temperature in degrees Celsius.
Good to know
The file is comma-separated, with a dot as decimal separator and units in the column names, so it reads the same in every country and every tool.
A value that the device did not record stays empty: a watch without a power meter gives an empty power column.
Wrong values can be cleared before the export: heart rate and power spikes, impossible positions and backwards times each have their own repair on the same page.
Example
The first lines of the sample “Healthy bike ride” above the drop zone (3,601 rows in all):
time_utc,latitude,longitude,altitude_m,distance_m,speed_m_s,heart_rate_bpm,cadence_rpm,power_w,temperature_c

How do I convert a FIT file to CSV?
Drop the .fit file on this page, then click “CSV” in the download block. The CSV is created on your device.
Can I open the CSV in Excel, Numbers or Google Sheets?
Yes. It uses commas between columns and a dot for decimals. In a spreadsheet set to another decimal separator, import it as a text file and choose comma and dot.
Does the CSV contain laps?
No: one row per recorded point. For laps, convert the file to TCX, or read them in the viewer of this page.
Is my file uploaded?
No. The CSV is created by this page, on your device.
Why are some columns empty?
The device did not record that value: no power meter, no temperature sensor, or no GPS for an indoor activity.
