FIT file viewer open a Garmin .fit file online and see what is inside
A .fit file is not a document you can open with a text editor: it is a compact binary format. Drop one here to see the activity it holds, drawn on this page: totals, the track, heart rate, elevation, power and speed, laps, the device that recorded it and the list of messages.
- Your file never leaves this device
- No account, no ads
- FIT, GPX, TCX and CSV exports

What you see
Totals
Device and software version, sport, date, distance, timer and elapsed time, ascent and descent, heart rate, power, cadence, speed or pace.
Track
The GPS track drawn from the recorded points, with start and finish. It is drawn on this page, without loading map tiles from another site.
Profile
Heart rate, elevation, power and speed along the activity, one chart at a time.
Laps
Each lap with its time, distance, speed, average heart rate and power.
File contents
The header, the checksum and the number of each type of FIT message, for the curious and for developers.
Units
Kilometres or miles, switchable at any time.
How to open a FIT file
On a computer, drag the file onto the drop zone, or click “Choose a file”. On a phone, the button opens your files: pick a .fit file you downloaded or received.
If the file comes from Garmin Connect as a .zip (the “original” export), unzip it first: the .fit file is inside.
If the file is damaged, the viewer still shows everything that can be read, and the diagnosis above it explains what is wrong.
Example: a bike ride
The sample “Healthy bike ride” above the drop zone opens with the device that recorded it, the totals of the ride, its track, its profile and its laps. Try it to see the viewer without your own file.
Questions
How do I open a FIT file?
Drop it on this page or choose it with the button. It opens in your browser on a computer or a phone, without installing anything and without an account.
Is the FIT file uploaded to view it?
No. It is read on your device by this page. The track is drawn here, without sending your positions to a map service.
Can I open a FIT file from Garmin Connect?
Yes. In Garmin Connect on the web, export the original file of the activity; you get a .zip that contains the .fit file. Unzip it and open the .fit here.
Which FIT files can I view?
Activity files are shown in full. Other FIT files (courses, settings, health data) are recognised and their messages are listed, without the activity views.
Can I save what I see?
Yes: below the viewer you can download the file as GPX, TCX or CSV, and a report of the diagnosis.
